Hi, I’m Sonjia — the hands, heart, wife, mama, and quiet creative teacher behind Rush Family Fiber.

I didn't grow up with rest. My childhood and early adulthood were rough, and for a long time I didn't know how to slow down or feel safe. When alcoholism, depression, and relentless anxiety took over my life, I reached a breaking point. In that season, God's Word became my lifeline. I started reading Scripture every day, and His truth pulled me out of the dark.

Crochet entered my life around that same time — a gentle, creative rhythm that helped my hands slow down while my heart healed. It wasn't the savior; Christ was. But crochet became a peaceful companion to the healing He was doing inside me.

Today, I'm still imperfect and still growing — and that's exactly why I'm here. I don't teach from a place of perfection. I teach from a place of compassion, patience, and lived experience. I'm a crochet expert, yes — but I'm also a sister who understands overwhelm, healing, and the slow work of learning to rest.

Why "Family"

Rush Family Fiber isn't just my name for this — it's who's actually building it. My husband and my children are part of this, from the ground up. Every kit that reaches you was shaped by a family who prayed over it before we ever sold one. When you hold a Rush Family Fiber kit, you're holding something that came out of our home, not just my hands.

Something I want you to know

As women, we often forget we're worth celebrating. We carry so much for everyone else that we forget to feel special ourselves. I want this kit to be a gift that says: you are more special than you know — not because of what you finish, but because of who you already are. And you are more special to God than you could ever imagine.

Rush Family Fiber exists to help spiritually tired, emotionally burdened women find peace again — one stitch, one breath, one small win at a time. I design beginner-friendly kits, step-by-step tutorials, and gentle guidance that make you feel capable, calm, and encouraged.

Every kit I create is something I'd make for my own sister — with love, with prayer, and with the hope that it brings you a moment of quiet in a world that asks too much of you.

A little more about me

When I'm not in God's word or crocheting, you'll probably find me cooking real food for my family, lifting weights, or autocrossing at the track — always thanking my God for the strength to do it all. It's not about the hustle; it's about living intentionally with what He has given me. Discipline looks different in every season — sometimes it's a skillet, sometimes it's a barbell, sometimes it's a steering wheel, sometimes it's a hook and a skein of yarn. But it's all the same heart underneath: showing up, one small habit at a time, and trusting God with the rest.
